University of Rochester Laboratory Technician IV in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Performs advanced highly specialized technical dry laboratory research activities, frequently designing or creating new techniques, procedures, and practices. Interprets activities/problems and selects approaches. Plans and conducts experiments, designing, or creating new techniques and procedures. Evaluates results and prepares report.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED :

After training, use of radiation devices for irradiating cultured cells and small laboratory animals. Measurements of tumor and normal tissue responses to radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Cellular and histopathological assessment of radiation damage using brightfield and fluorescent microscopy. Assessment of protein and genomic changes after cytotoxic treatments.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides experimental support for Shared Resources involving radiation and radiation procedures using cell cultures and small laboratory animals. (50%).

  • Utilizes knowledge and awareness of experimental standards, requirements and federal and state regulations, in accordance with broadly outlined objectives, requirements and approaches. Plans and conducts technical procedures. Analyzes data and contributes to planning of subsequent studies. Offers technical support to faculty, staff and collaborating scientists in experimental techniques, protocols, and instrumentation. (10%)

  • Following required and necessary training, performance of experiments utilizing mouse models, animal irradiations, and experimental procedures. Will follow all Department of Lab Animal Medicine and UCAR guidelines for proper animal handling and care and maintain records. (10%)

  • Will be responsible for routine physiological measurements of normal tissue functional data as a measure of chronic injury and efficacy of protector or mitigator treatments; analyze and prepares data for presentation/publication. (20%)

  • Execute a range of genomic and proteomic analysis via collaboration with Shared Resources. Computer-assisted analysis of stained histology sections. Maintain an easily accessible storage file. Analyze and prepare data for presentation/ publication. Use data to assist in study planning (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High School diploma and 7 years of relevant experience required.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay Range

Pay Range: $22.59 - $31.63 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
