WSP is currently initiating a search for a Assistant Consultant, Overhead Catenary Systems Design Engineer for our Newark, NJ or New York, NY location.

Your Impact

  • Ensure that company technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of projects;

  • Under general supervision develop design approaches and concepts for projects including Power Distribution Design for Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Commuter Rail, and High Speed Rail, utilizing overhead contact or third rail systems;

  • Prepare overhead contact system studies for AC and DC electrified railway systems;

  • Develop and review designs and technical specifications, meeting quality standards;

  • Develop construction cost estimates;

  • Develop design/engineering cost estimates;

  • Assist project managers in the coordination of project designs with other disciplines including attendance at project meetings;

  • Perform site investigations in substations and other wayside infrastructure;

  • Participate in WSP’s quality process for all deliverables:

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience

  • Support and participate in the Systems implementation phase of projects, such as installation, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings and final reports.

  • Support procurement efforts by authoring technical requirements and specifications, performing vendor bid evaluations and supporting vendor selection.

  • Commissioning of Traction Power Distribution Systems and Equipment, including experience with engineering design on at least three transit or commuter/intercity rail projects;

  • Good written and verbal communications skills and understanding of the English language;

  • Experience in a MicroStation and AutoCAD design environment for the development of Overhead Contact System design drawings;

  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications;

  • Immediate availability to work in the US.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer in Training Certification.

  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.

  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $56,300.00 - $92,840.00

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
