CiTi BOCES Middle School 8:1:2 Special Education Teacher in Mexico, New York
CiTi BOCES is currently seeking a certified Special Education Teacher. The Special Education Teacher is a dedicated professional responsible for providing specialized education and support to students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) or who have autism - like tendencies within an 8:1:2 ratio. This role involves creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, implementing evidence-based practices, and ensuring that each student’s unique needs are met.
Responsibilities:
Individualized Education Programs (IEPs):
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and review IEPs for students.
Ensure that IEP goals and objectives align with students’ strengths, challenges, and developmental levels.
Monitor progress, adjust strategies, and document outcomes based on IEP benchmarks.
Curriculum Development and Differentiation:
Design and adapt instructional materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students with autism.
Incorporate visual supports, structured routines, and sensory-friendly approaches.
Foster communication, social skills, and functional independence.
Behavioral Support and Positive Behavior Interventions:
Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to address challenging behaviors.
Promote positive behavior through reinforcement strategies and social-emotional learning.
Collaborate with behavior specialists and support staff.
Assessment and Data Collection:
Conduct ongoing assessments to evaluate student progress.
Use data-driven decision-making to modify instructional approaches.
Maintain accurate records and communicate progress to parents/guardians.
Communication and Collaboration:
Work closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other related service providers.
Facilitate communication between home and school.
Attend IEP meetings and provide input on student needs.
Inclusive Classroom Environment:
Create a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment using TEACCH practices (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication-related Handicapped Children).
Promote peer interactions and social inclusion.
Celebrate individual achievements and foster a sense of belonging.

Job Qualifications
Certification: Hold a valid New York State certification in Special Education.

Patience and Empathy: Ability to connect with students, understand their unique perspectives, and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
