How you'll shape the future of the Environmental Affairs Department

  • Work collaboratively with facility and corporate environmental staff to ensure environmental incident response, reporting, and corrective action tracking meet company standards. Coordinate training for facility personnel on company incident reporting procedures and other topics as needed.

  • Oversee ongoing compliance activities at chip mill operations.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain regulatory compliance management systems, including information workflows, reporting, and corrective actions.

  • Using the Incident Management System (IMS), compile company-wide data on environmental incidents and corrective action status monthly. Follow up with facility staff to resolve any errors or data gaps in the IMS. Identify trends and prepare summary information for Environmental Steering Committee review.

  • Maintain company environmental management system (EMS) documentation to ensure conformance to ISO 14001 and company standards. Communicate changes to facilities and support implementation as needed.

  • Lead DOT (Hazmat) compliance management system for pulp mills; facilitate continued compliance and provide ongoing oversight.

  • Execute assigned roles in projects and activities including the environmental audit program, ISO 14001 registration, facility compliance support, and other duties as needed.

  • Compile company-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) and environmental performance data annually, and as needed for projects. Develop, augment, and implement processes to standardize and validate environmental data and work with facility staff to ensure these processes are followed.

  • Provide analysis for Sustainability program and data, including benchmarking, trend analysis and narrative summaries according to requirements of Sustainability Protocols.

  • Provide environmental data analysis and summaries as required to support marketing and sustainability initiatives and respond to customer requests.

  • Develop, augment, and implement processes for tracking all environmental permits and approvals and develop a system to make copies of current permits accessible to both facility and corporate staff.

  • Participate in project teams to support environmental engineering and performance improvement projects as assigned.

You'll be someone who can bring

  • BS in science-related field, such as Pulp and Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or Aquatic Biology, or equivalent experience.

  • 5 or more years of experience with environmental compliance activities. Pulp and Paper industry experience preferred but not required

  • Preference for experience with environmental management systems for manufacturing operations.

  • Preference for experience with data analysis and reporting for Sustainability Protocols, such as SASB and CDP.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively.

  • Superior communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications with capability of learning other software applications.

  • Fundamental knowledge of management systems and continuous improvement tools preferred but not required.

  • Familiarity with US and/or Canadian environmental regulations preferred but not required.

  • General knowledge of environmental science is required.

  • Special emphasis and experience with regulatory management systems is preferred; experience with other environmental laws, regulations and program areas is preferred.
