POSITION PURPOSE:

Respond to 911 calls, interfacility, and tiered transfer requests, providing direct patient care. Under general supervision of a Registered Nurse, assist with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care within MercyOne Elkader Medical Center Emergency Department. Initiate and provide care within the scope of practice as defined by law providing emergency care to a wide range of patients including pediatric, adult, and geriatric. Maintain inventory of supplies in ER and order as directed from Materials Management.

What you will do:

  • Provide direct patient care in both the pre-hospital and hospital setting.

  • Cover on-call hours as directed and per departmental need.

  • Prepare annual education plan for EMS staff in conjunction with the EMS Manager.

  • Help Prepare and conduct training on a regular basis for EMS staff to meet requirements as well as identified departmental needs.

  • Maintain training logs and track your own CEH’s.

  • Assist in the preparation of the State Inspection through organized record keeping and maintenance of required training documents.

  • Responsible for EMS and ER inventory management and maintenance of equipment within the rigs as well as pagers and radios. Conduct rig checks on a monthly basis. Follow-up on inventory issues, equipment concerns, and maintenance needs timely.

  • Attend more than 75% of all meetings and training unless approved by EMS Manager.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Follow all policies within your scope of practice in the field during EMS calls.

  • Follow all policies within MercyOne Elkader Medical Center Emergency Room and in hospital scope of practice to include care, charting and duties assigned.

  • Shift times 0530-1800 and 1730-0600. Paramedic must report to Nursing report. At the start of each shift, unless patient care in ER, EMS Run, or EMS education or meeting.

What we are looking for:

  • Certified State of Iowa Paramedic must maintain active Certification.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in providing emergency care to patients in the pre-hospital or hospital setting.

  • Minimum of 1-year leadership experience in education and training (preferred).

  • Knowledge of National Incident Management System and Emergency Preparedness.

  • Current BLS. Obtain and maintain ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications.
