Amentum Special Projects Manager in Baghdad, Iraq

The Special Projects Manager will be based at one of two Amentum sites in Iraq and will serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. The Special Projects Manager will manage subcontractors as well as supervise teams of professional journeymen and apprentice tradesmen overseeing construction and renovation projects throughout Iraq and will report to the OMSS Program Manager or his designee. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Lead all aspects of active construction projects from inception to turn over.

  • Support the integration of the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) program throughout operations to safeguard employees and foster an environment where everyone is a safety champion.

  • Inspect work performed by tradesmen to ensure that it meets specifications, codes, and established industry standards.

  • Instruct staff in company work policies and procedures.

  • Review work orders and work order reports to ensure the tasks are completed on-time and inspect the projects to ensure all work is accomplished per the SOW.

  • Ensure personnel under supervision conduct inventory of current stock and order materials to ensure that supplies and equipment are available in adequate amounts.

  • Confer with staff to resolve performance and personnel problems.

  • Conduct daily meetings with trades to discuss project work, client concerns, and trade shop workflow.

  • Assist the Site Manager to prepare and submit detailed reports on work completed and on the status of the facility infrastructure systems projects.

  • Assist the Site Manager to establish milestones and monitor adherence to master plans and schedules. Identify program problems and obtain solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications.

  • Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions such as salary increases, dismissal, or promotion.

  • Take the lead in identifying and mitigating risk in the workplace.

  • Leading ethically and efficiently.

  • Set and clearly communicate vision and goals for employees under your leadership.

  • Communicate feedback and direction clearly.

  • Support team and chain of command with decision-making.

  • Mentor and coach employees under your leadership to expected or above and beyond performance standards.

  • Remain accountable to your chain of command and employees under your leadership.

  • Provide training to support new hire assimilation and continued on-the-job training and performance feedback.

  • Task and supervise employees under your leadership.

  • Encouraging collaboration with other departments

  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Preferred:

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:

  • Background in management of construction projects, subcontractors and trades.

  • Five (5) years’ verifiable experience as a Construction Project Manager with experience on USG projects. Experience with OCONUS projects in a multi-national austere environment is preferred.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in supporting construction management and projects at an overseas facility.

  • Superior knowledge with construction documents, prints, specifications, product submittals, etc.

  • Experience providing excellent customer services.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.

  • Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.

  • Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language.

  • Must have a leadership mentality and lead a team of professionals towards excellence in service deliverance.

  • Exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills in a construction setting.

  • Must be able to work under pressure.

  • Must be able to provide mentorship and guidance in a teamwork environment. Provide positive and negative feedback to support above and beyond performance.

  • Must be able to organize projects while following set guidelines and constraints, develop strategies, and plan tasks.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and administrative details in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and summarize data and to prepare clear and concise reports.

  • Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and MS Project scheduling.

  • Must be able to review vendor/subcontractor product submittals to insure conformity with project requirements.

  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.

  • Passport, Licenses and Certifications: As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts , candidates must possess a valid passport of with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages. Valid drivers’ license.

  • Security Vetting: Must possess an active US Government issued Secret security clearance or be eligible to obtain one. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

  • Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.

  • Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering or equivalent.

  • Relevant overseas contract experience.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, and Visio.

  • Previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions.

  • Experience working with Amentum.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
