Amarillo College Success Coach - Nursing in Amarillo, Texas

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Success Coach for Nursing who will be all-in on our mission and who will provide coaching and intervention techniques to the students. The Success Coach will be committed to student learning by ensuring student access to programs and services by helping to remove barriers to student enrollment and progression and supporting and assisting students with achieving their educational goal.

*This is a grant-funded position.

**This position requires travel to rural areas of the Texas Panhandle.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, education, counseling, health sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Experience in academic advising, success coaching, nursing, health sciences profession or related a field.

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education, retention or student success programming.

  • Experience using an early alert/advising system powered by predictive analytics.

  • Experience managing caseloads of clients/students.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a caseload of new students that attend the college and students experiencing academic difficulty.

  • Provide proactive and individualized success coaching.

  • Respond to faculty-submitted and automatically generated alerts for an assigned caseload of students.

  • Identify at-risk students within as assigned caseload of students using reports and analyzing data, creating a priority for outreach.

  • Provide proactive outreach to at-risk and special student populations and connect them to appropriate campus resources.

  • Empower students to effectively communicate with faculty and student services to become better connected to resources and support services.

  • Engage students in the educational planning activities, supporting academic advisors and departments, to help guide students to achieve their educational goals.

  • Engage with faculty/staff, and other departmental staff, as appropriate, to remain current with departmental policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of best practices in student transitions and student success initiatives

  • Demonstrate the ability to use effective communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment, manage deadlines.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently with good judgment in decision-making.

  • Demonstrate computer operation skills such as Microsoft Office and ability to adapt to various software systems.

  • Ability to develop relationships and cultivate partnerships with faculty, staff and community partners.

  • Ability to be a team player, a problem solver, to follow complex directions, interpret data.

  • Commitment to confidentiality and discretion concerning sensitive information at all times.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu) (https://www.actx.edu/hr/salary-schedules) , Pay grade 11 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Working Environment: This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio/video-recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets and fax machines. Classroom location assignment may vary.

Travel Expectations: Duties may include on/ off campus, day/evening and weekend instruction.
